About German-American Societies of Milwaukee, Inc.

The German-American Societies of Milwaukee was formed to provide a meeting place for representatives of German music, dance, cultural and educational societies in Southeastern Wisconsin to discuss events, promotions and concerns of those member German organizations.

As stated in the articles of incorporation, the purposes of this organization are exclusively educational, to represent the German-American Societies of Milwaukee and Wisconsin, and to engage in activities to further the understanding between the United States and German-speaking cultures, and shall be to preserve, advance, and disseminate knowledge of the culture and history of German-American societies.

At present, the German-American Societies of Milwaukee meets four times a year with an open table to discuss concerns, ideas and events to promote an active German awareness in Wisconsin and Northern Illinois. In addition, the German-American Societies of Milwaukee holds a German-American Day celebration on the first Sunday of October in recognition of the first German immigrants to the United States on October 6, 1683.
